Our 1944 home has a pull light switch over the sink. The only other pull light switches are in closets and garage. Finding a light fixture that I like w/ pull switch is difficult. Rejuvenation (make reproductions of period light fixtures) offers them w/ pull switches and the cheapest is $100.00 And that is a fixture I don't like! So, how difficult is it to convert to a wall switch or can you convert a standard fixture to a pull switch?

"... how difficult is it to convert to a wall switch?" Hard to tell without knowing exactly what's there, but there's always a way. It might be easy... might not. It depends on a lot of things.

You can add a pull switch to a light fixture - it's a question of 'will it fit?' and do you need to drill a hole, etc., ...the switch has to be able to handle the wattage of the bulbs, not a big deal, but make sure it's okay.

You can get different kinds of pull switches. The smallest I can think of are the ones in ceiling fans, they might fit inside whatever fixture you have in mind. I bet there's a lighting store in your area that fixes old lamps that could do custom wiring for you in a particular fixture.

How is spring treating you out there? It's been beautiful here the last couple weeks!

Dear claypa, we had 2 days of sun and fun but now back to drizzling rain and cold. You do know, life would be better out here if you would move out here to be our personal handyman. I would address you as Mr claypa, of course!!! re: pull switch. Do I get the device at the hardware store/lighting store to convert a reg. fixture to pull switch?

Yes, any hardware store will have them. Just remember the switch goes on the black wire. Another kind that might work, depending on your fixture, is a bulb socket that has a pull chain. It comes down to what will fit.
Lol, you can call me whatever you want, except late for dinner. It takes a lot of carbs to keep this show on the road!
