| I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread with this guy/gal. He came this a.m., and again at noon all by him/herself. He's sleek, feathers looks like soft brown suade, finch-like beak, goldfinch-sized, maybe a little larger, was eating nyjer. Reminded me of a pine sisken, but wrong color. | Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of my exciting find on friday.
I was out in back of my work eating lunch with a pair of Binoculars. We're in a small coastal town on the north shore of Massachusetts. Out back is a tidal canal. I spotted a "Dairy" Woodpecker so I was watching that when I heard a Crow caw, as I was turning towards the Crow, another bird was flying over the canal (40 feet from me). It was a Belted Kingfisher! I watched it perched in the tree for a few minutes, then it dove. Not sure if it was successful or not, but I couldn't concentrate when I got back into work.
I had seen one before, but that was in FL and it was just sitting on a wire as we drove past. This one was right where I work everyday! Yay! |

Btw the pied billed grebe was the biggest challenge to get a shot of, that little bugger always dove under the water to pop up way off some seconds later. | I saw my first ever Indigo Bunting today! I was so excited. My parents are visiting and my mom and I were talking on the patio and there he was. Of course, I didn't have my camera, and he only stayed long enough for me to identify him. Rose, I completely understand your excitement. I'm just dying to see this guy again! I enjoyed your pictures as always.
Adel, that golden-crowned sparrow is just beautiful.
PanamonCreel, love the Snow Geese!
GP, loved the Prairie Warbler shot. It's very artsy!
GG, I agree that the male grackles with their blue heads can be pretty. Starlings are pretty too. It's just too bad they're so nasty.
I really enjoyed all the photos. Thanks for sharing.

| The Goldfinches must passing through Adel, I had a tree full some time back. I have a nesting pair now, makes me wonder if they drop a pair off on each stop!
Wonderful pics everyone else!
The sun in the last two days has had me out taking lots of pics, but more bees etc than birds. I got a Goldfinch which landed on a pile of rubbish, I saw it taking it's nesting material across the road into a dense tree after picking up grass roots again.
