The terror...the terrifying terror...
Some sort of half-eaten land-urchin beetle...or part of the creature from 'The Thing'.
You should immediately take that alien menace to your local scientist person.
You know what would be funny though is you could put it in someone's bed or on their plate, just looking at that spiny horror would put several people I know into comas.

Are you close enough to salt water that maybe something could have grabbed this critter out of the ocean and it somehow ended up in your yard?
That is seriously the strangest thing I've ever seen...

I'm 8 1/2 miles from the beach and 5 1/2 miles from the St. John's River ... so there is no telling ... lol ... My hubby made me get rid of it ... It creeped him out and he's not freaked out of anything like this normally. LOL..

The back of the head had a whole in it. he said maybe it was some sort of butterfly or moth that came out of its shell possibly ...

It really looks like part of a sea creature. Either that or there ARE aliens among us! I knew that guy at Walmart looked funny...

My first thought is (part of) a dead and dried out fuzzy caterpillar.

When I saw the thumbnail I laughed because I though it might be just the outer covering of a chestnut fruit. [HYPERLINK@www.cas.vanderbilt.edu] Now that I've seen the full-size image I'm not laughing anymore. That looks like something Stephen King dreamt up! Where the heck is claypa to tell us what the crap that is!?

Planting daylilies... I'm with Floridian on this one. Maybe a bird ate part of it or something. But I was going to search back in the forum for a similar post. It was black and fuzzy, looked like half a caterpillar, but I don't remember how that ID turned out.

Oh! I can see it now. It looks like a woolly bear caterpillar [HYPERLINK@i78.photobucket.com] that's had it's insides removed. Sick!

claypa the pcs on that link look very close. This thing was at least 2 inches long. I would say as thick as my thumb ... but of course you can't see my thumb ... LOL ... ok ... like the width of a penny. So it seems it could possibly be a leopard caterpillar ... it didn't have any brown on it ... but it could be a wooly bear also like plantfreak78 link. HMMMMMMMMM ...

I can see it being some kind of caterpillar. Those pics just make it look HUGE!

I think I'll go with it's some kind of alien. Or fictitious horror creature. :-P
