...or a swift kick you know where.

I'm trying to reduce the clutter and it is driving me up the wall. I have boxes for charity, trash and things I have determined the kids want but there are still leftovers. In going through some really old boxes (so you KNOW I don't need this stuff) I came across things like college and fraternity mugs with DH's name imprinted on them. We don't like having our names tossed all over the community so into the trash they will go - if I can bear it.

And, how about high school and college yearbooks? Why in the world have I kept those for so long; we haven't opened them in 40 years. Tell me to toss them please...

Does anyone remember letter sweaters in HS? Got them too, what was I thinking?

My boys (now 35 & 41) won hundreds of ribbons on swim teams when they were young. They don't want them so they too should go.

The very hardest for me are plaques awarded to DH. He was in public service for his entire career and you didn't get bonuses you got commendations. Those in frames I have removed and put them in an album but we have many large and fancy walnut and brass ones, even silver trays. They were awarded by folks who appreciated his time and attention and I hate to just toss them but the kids say they don't want this stuff either.

Help, tell me to stick with my instincts and toss, toss, toss.

LOL, thanks, I needed that.

It's funny we have always had homes with lots of easily accessable storage space and it was just so easy to let *stuff* pile up but who needs it????.

You may want to contact your high school and college, they may take the yearbooks, and maybe even the lettermen sweaters...

You wouldn't believe what I found this afternoon. Anyone old enought to remember those little books that your friends would write silly verses in "Remember me, etc...". What were they called????? What a hoot to look those over. My attic really is beginning to resemble a museum. ;-((((

I think they were called autograph books. I use to have one, but lost it with a bunch of other stuff when the squirrels decided they wanted to nest in my attic...

I love going through old stuff, so many memories...

I am afraid we would need a moving van. LOL

We are just finishing up with a small remodeling of our dining area and when the architect saw all the room in our walk in attic she couldn't imagine why we didn't want to put 3 more rooms up there. My goal is to only store holiday decorations, out of season clothes, luggage and rarely used kitchen stuff like canning pots and jars.

I have already taken about a dozen cartons of books to the library for their used book sale. My parents, who had lived through the depression, were such savers and they passed that bad trait on to me. No more! Free at last!

OK, I CAN'T get rid of this. LOL

It is my mother's autograph book. The front cover is some sort of plastic like material and the back cover is embossed velvet.

I wouldn't get rid of that either!! Maybe one day your grandchidren will want some of these things. I think it would be fun for them to look through.

I have a cedar chest that belonged to my mothers grandmother, that I am filling with things for our granddaughter. She is only 7 weeks old, but in time I hope she will appreciate having things that were from generations ago.

I think that is the best way to control the amount of clutter, bhaugh. I have given my (military) son a tall cupboard in the garage and my guest br closet to store all of their keepers in. They also have to have room in those places for all their luggage and toys when they visit(4 Perfect Grandkids) ;-) That has helped HIM, now if I can just get moving on my stuff...

LOL nan, I have that problem too. I can decide what to save for my GD, but when it comes to really getting rid of things...THAT becomes an issue for me. I hate to throw anything away. I keep thinking...one day I might find a use for this thing, even though it is missing parts...LOL...

Here is an example...I have enough Christmas ornaments to decorate inside and out at least 4 houses!! Not only have I collected them for the past 23 yrs. of marriage, I got a lot of my parents things when they passed. Same with dishes. I know I don't need any more, could serve an army with what I own now, but I continue to buy them...

What possesses a person to become such a pack rat in the first place????? :o)

At least with Christmas ornaments you can put other uses to them, just display them on shelves, fill vases with the colored balls and you can always set up more than 1 tree. We have 3 we put up.

I was tinking about this and I think we both need to build "care packages" for the disaster victims. I think I could help towards furnishing the household of fire or tornado victims pretty easily with all of my stuff.
My son wants me to pack up some stuff like the too many Christmas ornaments for his kids along with notes to give them some of the history of the family and their Daddy.
My daughter-in-law says that I need to learn to sell everything on E-Bay.
