Today I added another new bird to my life list ... the Wilson's Phalarope.
They were a fair distance from shore and it was almost sunset; so my pictures didn't turn out very good. Even so, I don't recall ever seeing these birds on this forum; so I decided to post a couple of the pictures I took.
Here's a picture of the whole flock. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Here's as close as I could get (with a lot of cropping) to one of the phalaropes,
In addition to this being a new bird, I couldn't quit laughing as I watched them. They have the most unusual feeding habit, spinning in circles, which creates a vortex that helps raise food to the surface. Seeing the whole bunch of them spinning around almost made me dizzy.
I found this video that shows one of them feeding.
[HYPERLINK@ibc.hbw.com]
Can you imagine seeing 30-40 of them doing this all at once?

It is cold for our area (in the 30's last night and freeze warning for tonight)! Same thing happened last year and this area lost lots of plants and fruit. I hope our little birds will be OK. We now have 2 Male Indigo Buntings as well as at least 1 female. They are now eating at the feeders and seem to have settled in for the summer. That just thrills me!!!
The Baltimore Orioles are still visiting and I hope I can get more pics of them today as well as the pair of Ruby-throated Hummers. The Orioles are finally using the feeders as well!
Great shot of the SS Hawk Pelle!!
