The daughter of our good friends is graduating from University next month. We have received an announcement.
What is the general idea on giving a gift to the graduate? She is continuing her studies.

In my opinion, I always like to send a gift card or cash/check. I think anything from $25 and up depending on the budget is acceptable. They also have that "VISA" gift card so that it can be used just like a visa so that the student can spend the money on work clothes, food, etc.

Thanks, that was kind of what I had in mind.

Do check the small print on that Visa card. It may cost you money to get it and it may cost the person to spend it. Maybe they have changed now and that is no longer the case. I ended up getting a Target gift card several years ago because of the fees on the Visa.

Thanks, I will check it out. I may end up just doing cash.

My personal opinion is that once you've given gifts for high school graduation, I really don't think folks are under any etiquette obligation to give gifts for college graduation.

Or to put another way - I've got six kids, five girls. My second daughter just got her master's. You do the math on all those graduations and weddings.

My friends would all be as broke as I am if they were to give that many gifts. LOL

A nice card congratulating her on her graduation and best wishes on her (possible) new found career or continuing education are all that are necessary, imo.
