| No, I don't see them often Pelle. But they seem to arrive every year just after the blues' first clutch has fledged, so they are here right now and actively looking for a house. The BBs have already started building a new nest in their house and won't let the TRES get close to it. I find the TRES very difficult to photograph. Something about their color and sheen, and of course, they don't stay put very long and fly in unpredictable patterns. |

Yesterdya both the female and male pheasant appeared, she was a little more nervous than usual unless it's a different bird! The male did his usual territorial rounds, not taking any notice of me at all.
Off down the garden path, he seemed to be tired, I noticed he has some loose wing feathers. Must be tough being top cock.

| I have so many Blackbirds which roam the garden, often as it's getting dark. I saw seven at once and most were males, must be last year's offspring as they are territorial. Lately I have seen one chasing another, not too seriously as yet but they come face to face then rise into the air beak to beak. I was lucky enough to see them about to do it and had camera ready, a shame about the washing on the line, lol. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Hi Wallaby,
Yep, they breed in the Med and winter in Africa. There's an average of about 15 or so recorded in Britain every year, but mostly on the south coast, this far north only one every few years. The last one in Northumberland was 6 years ago. You're right that they tend to arrive on southerly winds in spring; when migrating birds go past where they normally stop to breed, it is known as 'spring overshooting'.

| Lazuli Bunting!!
I just had one at one of my feeding stations! The 75-300mm lens on the Canon is not working (won't focus) so I grabbed the old Mavica. Pic is lousy and very tiny, but I do have documentation.
Also exciting, though I didn't see it, SOMETHING is eating the oranges I put out. I try every year, but they've always been ignored before. Click the image for an enlarged view.
