Two weekends ago, I bought a lovely orchid at a show. It's Eplc. Pixie Charm (I.C. Pixie x Epi. Alatum)-orange.

I brought it to my office with two partially open spikes ( half the blooms were open) and on spike not yet open. BTW, I am not sure what to call the flower stems. For daylilies, they're spikes.

Yesterday, four of the lower blooms on one spike were fading (from yellow with a stripped throat to a peachy color in the flower) and I attributed this to their age... I am not sure how old they were when I got them. But today, many more are turning, even some of the more newly open ones. Yesterday, I watered, as normal, but didn't realize there was some pooling after watering in the cache pot, and have today removed the plant to sit in a saucer. The stems and leaves look fine. It's root bound and the roots over the plastic pot appear fine, though some were wet. None appear mushy.

Is this a shorter lived flower? The dendrobiums, Brassia and Phal. that I normally bring to the office have a fairly long 'shelf-life'. Could it be overwatered? Could it just be the enviroment shock? Again, I'm fairly new and not familiar with this type. It's become my favorite flower so far and I don't wish to harm the plant.

Also, is Eplc. a hybrid term betweeen two orchid types? I can't seem to find what it stands for.

thanks in advance for your help.
