Hello! First of all, I am all thumbs and cannot make anything!!! The reason for my plea for help is that I have some very old Mexican Indian embroidery on some squares I have sewn on pillows...naturally, the pillows are off white!!! I need to wash the covers and am very afraid that the coarse yarn used in the embroidery is going to run all over the place.

Is there anyway to 'SET' the colors so they won't run? Anyway to wash the pillows so they won't run? Previously (in another life) i tried cold water but it still ran...

I would really appreciate any help here... and if the subject is too silly...can someone direct me to a site on line where i might find a solution?

Thanks in advance,
Carol

Some yarns are just not really meant to be washed so I'd be really careful, since this is really old they may very well have used dyes that are not going to stand up well to washing. Do you have a local needlework or yarn shop? You might stop in there and see if they have any advice or techniques, I'm sure there are methods that the pros have to clean delicate needlework, but I'm not sure if it's something you'd be able to do at home. Or if the problem is that the off-white background has gotten some stains on it, you might try just using a spot remove on those areas rather than trying to clean the whole thing.
