My 6 yr. old came running up to me, "mommy, mommy, there's 2 new bird's I've never seen before!"...Sure enough a gorgeous male and female rose-breasted grosbeak were at the feeder. It's always exciting to see them. In my area, they are merely passing by, on their way to their Summer destination, so I only get this small window of time to catch a glimpse of them. I wish I had a picture to post .

The first time I saw this bird it sent me to the bird book. They are so much prettier in real life.
Glad you were able to see them and share the joy of birdwatching.

Sounds like your 6 year old is a cutie!

And the Rose-breasted grosbeaks are too. We are lucky to have a few visiting our feeders now too. What fun! I don't remember having them in other years...

I have three pairs that have been hanging around my feeder for three weeks now. I can't believe they are staying in my area (Vicksburg, MS) this long! Normally, I'm extremely lucky to get a glimpse of one or two passing through to their summer destination. I'm beginning to wonder if they've decided to take up residence here in my yard. They sure would have ideal conditions. My 12-year old grandson was so excited to see them this last weekend as he's never seen one before. He thought they were "really neat."

I have never seen them in Alabama before this year, either. An awesome sight. I have seen them every day for a week. . . Hope they stay.
