I don't even know if this is the proper place to ask, but since I have know idea what this is, I thought I'd start here :-). It's about the size of a golf ball, on a conifer. Please and Thanks! Andrea Click the image for an enlarged view.

It looks like something from a science fiction movie. Kinda scary! LOL It looks kind of like a cypress seed, but much larger.
I hope you find out before the invasion gets serious.
You haven't seen any little green men have you?

Lol! I didn't know that cypress had a seed 'capsule'. there are 3 of these on the tree/shrub. I wonder if that is what it is. |

Oh, ewwww. How do I take care of this? Do I just cut them off and that's it? Or do I have to spray it with something. Thanks for all you answers! Andrea |

It probably won't hurt the juniper (yes, just cut it off), but that gall is releasing spores that could infect apples and crabs.
Try a search for cedar-apple rust. The fungus alternates between apples and junipers, but people still (mistakenly) call them "cedars". |
