Our house is situated in the middle of 3 acres combination meadow, lawn and wooded wetlands. My husband put up bluebird houses for me. The first few years we had 2 to 3 generations of bluebirds a season. The last two years, barn swallows are trying to take over! What a fight! We now have half and half living here. The one benefit we're getting from the swallows is that they swarm after my husband when he mows and gobble up all the insects and mosquitos stirred up when he disturbs them!

I also have many feeders with a great variety of birds. My only problem seems to be grackles and cowbirds which try to take over and intimidate the smaller guys!
