An auction system is an extremely complicated endeavor, and I'm nowhere near ready to be completed with it.
On the other hand, a more simple system can be finished much quicker, and can be used while we still have a seasonal purchasing timeframe.
Thus, I am going to postpone the "Auction" idea, take out the bidding system and build the so-called "DG Marketplace" as soon as possible.
The DG Marketplace will act like the planned Auction system, with a few exceptions:
1) There will be no bidding. All prices are fixed.
2) There will be no automatic shipping calculation. The vendors will calculate the shipping for each order, update the order with the shipping cost, and the buyer will then pay them.
If we try to have everything under the sun at launch time, then it'll never get launched. I'd learned this lesson in the past and my experience with building this feature has underscored that. I'm planning a simple system here that is usable "out of the box", and then we can start adding features to it as we want them.
My big goal is to have this thing ready during the next week, or perhaps even this week, and get some sales going and see how it goes.
Yep, give us what you can and then you can, say, take yer time, creating a competitor to PayPal along with the dBay ... believe me, every sane person on the planet would thank you.
I'm looking forward to the start of this. My mother has been nagging me about "selling" some of the excess stuff I have and I have some GREAT craft stuff for gardeners!
While I haven't been following this project closely, I have been checking in from time to time. And I just wanted to say 'thank you' for all of the very neat stuff and for all the innovations you bring to the gardeners. It's rare to find a web person like you who truly listens to their members.
