| Talking about peanuts, yesterday my Pheasant followed me when I went to put more peanuts in the silo. I had already put the last of some oats on the ground, but he wanted peanuts first. I gave him a few, then he went back to eat the oats! Later I had him eating bread from my hand, and he was more gentle than the first attempt, lol.
Yesterday the female Blackbird was gathering nesting materials for the next nest. I watched to see where she flew to, but too clever for that, she ran along the ground until out of sight! I haven't seen the young from the first lot yet. Click the image for an enlarged view.

This Mistle Thrush was collecting outside my front window on the dug area a week ago, has a mouthful of moss too from the 'grass'. It looks to have blue on it but that I think is because it was through double glazing and it was dull. The ones I had last year weren't this pale, they had the 'c' shape heavy dots on buff but this one has large blobs on white, it's back was grey too. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| It sure is a fun time of the year with all these migratory birds!!
Mary, I'm so glad I saw your post with the orange through the end of the shepherd's hook! I've been wondering how to put up some oranges! Such a simple solution.
One of the female Red-breasted Grosbeaks is back today. Dark and rainy though, so pictures not so great so here's another from yesterday. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| The male Baltimore Oriole doesn't come down as often as the female, and when he does, it is very early in the morning or late in the evening.

| Nanny...great shots...you have a wonderful variety of birds and I have yet to see a Catbird!! I think I am getting a serious case of Catbird envy!
Mrs. Ed..OMG..your RB Grossbeaks are beee you tee full!! I think your Catbird had better lay off the sauce for awhile! Great shots all around!
bsharf...Adorable...thanks for posting!
We had to go get tractor stuff and were gone for several hours. When I checked on my feathered friends I discovered all the jelly dishes empty and many Orioles in the trees seemingly waiting for "lunch"! I filled them up early this morning but it looks like they expect many meals a day!! I've already gone thru 3 large jars of jelly just since they've been here...we won't even count the number of oranges they are eating! Too much fun!! |

| They are very funny Pelle! I can't believe how much they eat and it seems word has gotten around as there are several Orchards and Baltimores. They are out there now in the rain scarfing up the jelly yelling at me "you were late for lunch"!!
Thanks for the info on the GF Pelle...no one around here seemed to know if they stayed or not. Their numbers are not as great as in the winter but I guess that is because there is natural food available for them. |

| We've had a male Summer Tanager feeding in our yard every day since April 26. According to the Audubon people, this is extremely rare, as they usually don't go north of central Illinois! We are in the Keweenaw Peninsula of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Here's a photo, enjoy! Click the image for an enlarged view.
