I forgot to say that all the Identify This Bird Please threads have been moved over to that forum.

Just in case you were wondering where they all went. :-)

I don't like it. I thought it was much better when it was here. Of course there is more traffic there. But some of the people there are not real bird watchers and the same rules don't apply. I think the threads we had going here were much more pleasant.

Well give it some time Frank.

Its strictly an ID forum so people submitting pics do not have to be real bird watchers (although to tell you the truth I'm not sure I'd be considered one of those).

Sorry I don't know what you mean about the same rules.

Let me add that anyone that comes into this forum or that one does not have to be a Bird Watcher in the true sense.

Someone who even occasionally enjoys birds is always welcome here. :-)

That's weird that it is way over in the general gardening list.

I kind of liked it in the BW forum too. We'll see...

If you add the forum to your favorites, it will always show up on your Home Page with a "yes" or "no" to let you know if there has been any activity in it since you last visited ;o)

Would it be better if I moved the ID forum to the same general area as the Bird Watching forum? I originally placed it in the general gardening area because that's where our other ID forums are located, but it's an easy switch if most everyone thinks it should be relocated.

Any objections to the move? I'll leave it where it is for today, then move it unless someone brings forward a good reason it should remain where it is ;o)

I'm kind of torn on whether or not it should be moved from where it is. From the perspective of a 'general' DG user, I would think having it in the same area as the bug ID and plant ID forums would make more sense. When I got a Dmail saying a thread of mine had been moved to a bird ID forum, I went to look for the new forum and I admit I first looked around where the BW forum is, but then I thought to myself "wait, where are the bug and plant ID forums located? It's probably there" and that's where I found it. I think those who are not regulars in our forum would be more likely to find it where it is now.

But I also agree with Frank and Shan that having it moved away from here will make it less convenient for those who frequent this forum (I hate to say 'real bird watchers' - what's that? Is there a test? Do you have to have a license?) to check it.

Also, I don't know what you mean by 'the same rules don't apply'.

I'm thinking it should stay where it is, but there should be a sticky with a shortcut to it in this forum. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't go to a 'home page' at DG. I just bookmark the forums list and go where-ever I want from there.

I have my Favorite Forums on my Home Page. Beyond that I watch the "Latest Posts" threads and every so often do a Daves "walkabout" where I look into some other forums.

I think theres just all levels of Bird Watchers from the casual backyard observer to those who actually take frequent road trips to different spots to watch birds.

PeeperKeeper, you *really* should try adding your favorite forums to your homepage and using it - it's way better than bookmarking forums. You can customize your DG homepage anyway you want - including:

- Get alerts whenever there's a new post on a thread you're watching;
- See and access all your favorite forums at a glance;
- Spot any new dmail messages (including the sender and subject line);
- For pure random fun, you can see the newest posts across all the forums (you never know when a thread title will pique your interest even though it's in a forum you would NEVER think to check on); and
- Keep tabs on this week's voting booth, random photos, today's birthdays, newest members, etc.

Or you can pare your home page down to just the bare minimum of things you really want to keep tabs on and make it very streamlined ;o)

By rules I meant the first and I guess the only rule that Dave made for the bird watching forum. As for as real birdwatchers I meant those who have an interest and joy in feeding, watching and learning more about birds, not IDing them to get rid of them or harm them.

Hi Frank, I'm glad you came back to explain. I'm sure the same rule applies there but its just an ID forum so general discussions about birds shouldn't even be there except as it pertains to identification.

I'm glad this thread came back up. I was wondering if in the Communities area the Bird Identification will be moved over to the area where Bird Watching is since it really doen't have anything to do with General Gardening. Thank You. :-)
