Now we need a big 'Marketplace'button on the home page. One other thing I have found. We need a way to delete photos without cancelling the whole thing.I don't know how others do it,but when I upload photos I don't see them until I preview the auction.
At that point I may need to delete the photo and upload one in it's place.See 'Velvet Rose' for an example.Thjose pix were taken under very different light conditiond and should not be together.

that would be nice, since i used my baby's photo for the beta sunflower seeds LOL

i may have missed this, forgive me if you answered it elsewhwere, but may we list our phone number so folks can call in their credit card info? i don't think they would want to dmail those numbers... or do we handle that privately AFTER the sale...

also, how do i edit quantity afterwards. i mistakenly listed 1 pack, forgetting this was not an auction and i could list my toal quantity [i have three]

When I try to search for specific plants by typing their names into the box up next to "Search Marketplace", I get an "Error 404", file not found, even though the plants I'm looking for are currently among the listings for sale.

I now have some auctions that have reached the "waiting for payment"stage.Everything has worked smoothly to this point.A couple of suggestions...
We need to have multiple purchases, from the same person, made on the same day, automatically combined.Otherwise we have a book keeping nightmare.
Also, could we have "preferences" set up to automatically add our payment requests?
no need to cut and paste the same unchanging thing over and over.
OK three suggestions...auto postage calculations please.

This may have been answered somewhere but I haven't seen it. Is there some way to offer 1 for like $7 and 3 for $18? Like a better deal on 3 of something rather than 1. Or would we have to make 2 different adds for something like this?

Yes, but only by offering them as different products. So you could create a product called a "3 pack of such-and-such" and offer it for $18... That's the only way at this time. We very well may improve this later on. My plan is to grow this feature organically, adding features to the system as it is needed and clamored for.

Quoted:

That's a pretty hefty undertaking, but it's a priority for me to get it up and running. In the meantime, the seller will have to work around it. Hopefully it won't be long before I work out a good solution to that.

Quoted:
Also, could we have "preferences" set up to automatically add our payment requests?

Yes, definitely on the TODO.

Quoted:

Postage calculation is extremely difficult and will be a long time before it's ready. There are just so many variables:

1) Source
2) Destination
2a) International
3) Carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx, all having a different way of displaying postage)
4) Weight
5) Size of parcel

and on and on. Doing auto postage calculation means I have to collect all this additional information and I'm not ready for that. It may be several months before we can get into it...

I see a problem raising it's ugly head.
Buyers will Have to give an order number or at least description of what they have purchased on PayPal and or checks. I just received 2 payments with no item number ??? If I hadn't just done these, I would be at a total loss as to what it was for. This is a must to avoid confusion - otherwise, we would need to DMail the buyer and ask what they were paying for. If this thing gets real busy it could be very time consuming.
Also we need a way to have a link to PayPal so we won't have to post our email address on the listings.

threegardeners has the right idea. When you give the payment instructions, instruct the buyer to include the order # in the comment field of the paypal.

I have stated in my item descriptions that if a customer chooses by Paypal, there will be the slightly higher rate due to the 2.9% and $0.30 fees Paypal charges me. One way to work around that - for me, anyway - was to open a second Paypal account (personal), where I can receive funds for no fee. The first one will be for credit card payments only.

I also stated in my descriptions to notify me of payment choice (Paypal or Money Order), then I d-mail them the payment information.

Dave, a little prblem, two actually, but i only created ONE of them :)

first, i had a product that i couldn't find the picture of, so i didn't launch and came back later to add pictures. when i did, it left the thumbnail blank, and launched it anyhow [naughty naughty, all my fault!]

then, just for fun i did a search Marketplace for beans. the error 404, where you make Lemonade, when you scroll down it still lists DG Auction under development instead of marketplace, so, just ONE MORE PAGE for you to get to update!

I spent a few hours yesterday listing about a dozen gardening books that had been collecting dust around here (since I found Dave's Garden).

When listing the books, I found it handy to have 2 windows open. One for the current currentt and another for an already listed book. Those things that needed to be repeated were easily cut and pasted from one to another.

I didn't launch any of them until I had the dozen ready to launch. As I continued listing, I'd realize something that was left off and editing the previous listings were very easy to do. I launched them one after another so they'd be "in a line" in the list of products. It all worked out beautifully!

I have already sold 5 of those listed yesterday. Every step of the way has gone very smoothly on the sales.

Thanks for your hard work in getting this set up Dave. I appreciate your efforts to make this work so smoothly.

Ok, I received my payment for my orders, but they don't want me to ship for two weeks, so will the seller management stay up there til I do ship and then once the item is shipped , what do we do next anything for us or for the buyer to do. I was asked and wasn't to sure how the next steps one shipped go.

Sartlight, print out the payment sheet - I always print 2 packing slips, one to ship with the item, and one for me to keep with the shipping receipt - the half of the label after you have it ready for shipping. Meanwhile, write a note on it to ship on such snd such a date.
You also must write the description , order number and DG name to keep things straight and to save looking back on your records...I always add a nice litle note of thanks on the packing sheet and staple on any planting instructions / tips you might have.

Thanks Azalea : ) I didn't even think about trying to print a receipt from off of here. Didn't even cross my mind that we could do such a thing. Lots of new cool things to get used too with the MarketPlace.

Dave... How many listings wil be on one page before it starts a page two, or is it gonna be one continuous page. Would be nice when ya get a chance like somebody else mentioned to get some basic grouping titles, like plants, seeds, garden tools, misc., pottery, craft s , ect. Have abutton with maybe a half dozen or so main topics and pick the one we want our ad to go in. Probably not asking for anything you haven't thought of though.

Only problem I see with the buyers adding a note - this is fine on their payment sheet - but the note will disappear on the packing slip! So if you print out the packing slips like I do in advance and keep them in a folder til time to send, you have to add your own description - otherwise you just get a payment and have to figure out what it is for. So write your self notes on the one you are going to keep.

There are now over 250 products, all showing on the Marketplace homepage. I'll be introducing categories very soon (that's my #1 priority) and then I will re-do the homepage. Instead of showing all the products, I will instead show the most recent 20 products, followed by a link where you can drill down by category.

Dave-
Could you post a sticky with buying FAQ and instructions or a tutorial where we could walk through the process as a buyer? Like a test auction type of thing where I could see what the process is and what info I need to have handy to purchase, plus any relevant policies?

Just looking at these I have no idea what my payment choices are, for example, and the development threads got way too long to read.

Dave--how do we get your 3% fee to you? Can we PayPal it when we reach set amounts, like $5.00? I'm not sure if you can use PayPal for sending 12 cents, seems like it would be easier for ya'll as far as book keeping goes (that was for a single $4.00 purchase--just an example).

Here are some FAQs to start out with.

Q. Is this an auction?
A. There will be no bidding. All prices are fixed.

Q. Can I sort the items listed for sale?
A. Umm... apparently not. I thought they would sort by the headings? I could have been dreaming that. LOL The newest items listed are at the top of the list.

Q. There are so many items listed! Can they be categorized so I don't have to scroll through all of them?
A. Categories are coming! In the meantime, if you are looking for something specific, you can hold down the Control button and type "f" to open a search window. (That only works on Windows machines, I think?)

Q. What are the payment options?
A. That is up to the seller to decide. It should be spelled out clearly in the item description. If not, contact the seller to ask before you purchase the item.

Q. What are the shipping costs?
A. That is up to the seller to decide. It should be spelled out clearly in the item description. If not, contact the seller to ask before you purchase the item.

Q. How do I contact a seller?
A. Look for the "Send seller a D-Mail" link at the right side of the item description.

Q. How do I see what else a seller is selling?
A. Look for the "View other products by ..." link at the right side of the item description.

Q. What plants may I buy legally from a seller in another state?
A. Here is a link to individual state requirements:
http://nationalplantboard.org/laws/index.html

Q. If I buy an item, and then change my mind, what do I do?
A. Contact the seller as soon as you know you cannot finish your transaction. The seller has to pay a fee for their finished listings, so they need to go through a process to cancel the sale and get their fee back. Please be considerate!

Q. When I clicked "Purchase", the system asked for my address. Is my information kept secure?
A. Yes! The seller will be given your name and address in order to ship your items to you. No one else will see it. See http://davesgarden.com/aboutus/privacy/ for our privacy policy.

Another point to add to the FAQ (and I don't know the answer) is at what point in the process you are committing to buy. I wasn't sure whether I could click on buy just to see payment options, or whether I was sealing the deal just by clicking on that.

Also, as far as a test auction goes, screen shots would do the job. I was just suggesting some way to know the process in advance. I saw some items I liked and had no idea how to buy.

It didn't come up on my screen Terry--so I guess, unless it takes time you didn't do what ever it takes to commit.

I have another question while we are at it--let's say I have a hypothetical (and this hypothetical, nobody get your feathers ruffled) customer who just will not pay several days after the order payment deadline has been passed and it sits in my que waiting for me to hit payment received. How do I, as the seller, terminate the sale? I see where I can cancel an item up for buying (which is very useful because I am selling simultaneously off my website--those are instant sales so I like the flexability of the edit option ya'll have added) but do not see any option of just stopping a sale. I can see how this might be necessary if I allow USPS money orders to try to please the DG folks who are PayPal haters (and they have their valid reasons--I just haven't found a more efficient system yet so I stay with PayPal. I also don't have any problems with them because they make good profit off the money I have coming in to me).

well, not yet. no other "issues" have cropped up. So far very smooth and easy for me to work with. I just often have to have two windows open simultaneously to communicate with them on private dmail about how I'm combining orders to save them shipping money and cutting and pasting their address to generate shipping labels--but these are just issues unique to me and how I run things from my end.

Terry, I can answer this question, since I've been on the purchasing end of a few items. You can click on "Buy it Now" without commitment. Once you click on "Buy it Now", you are taken to a page to fill in your mailing address and any comments. After you fill all that in you click on a link that says 'Continue to the confirmation page'. On that page there is a big red arrow that says 'Click to confirm and place your order.' Once you click on the link that the big red arrow points to, you are confirmed and obligated to purchase the item.

It really works like a charm from a buyer's point of view.
