Someone noticed my heavily blooming peony the other day and asked me what I did to get mine to bloom because she had one that just wouldn't so we ran down the checklist:
>soil well ammended with peat and compost/organic humus...check
>eyes no deeper than 2-3 inches below surface...check
>at least 6 hours of sun...check
>plant's been in the ground for 2 yrs or better w/o distrubance...check
>watered well during hot weather...check
I didn't say anything about fertilizer because I don't use any on mine and it blooms beautifuly. I do occassionaly put my home made compost in the bed when I'm adding a new plant to the bed but I'm well away from the peony so as not to disturb it's roots.
I don't know what else to tell her.
