I'm trying to identify some of the native Iowa trees on my new property. This one has an interesting way of opening its leaves. Anyone know what it is? Two pics...

I can never remember these when I see them, but I'll guess a carya (hickory), these are always confusing 'cause they kinda look like aesculus(buckeye) buds unfurling. Good luck! |
