I am so excited there is a Heuchera forum. I know I'll have 1000 questions and will probably drive everybody crazy, but I just realized last year that I have the perfect place to grow these. I didn't even think about it before; I have always had Heucheras there, but they were the old green ones from 20 years ago (ok, 10 years ago, or 5 years ago LOL!) but before the more colorful ones came out.
I placed an order for some Heucheras on the Yahoo coop group and have since found out from some previous threads in the forum that some of the new ones are Villosa strains.
I understand the Villosa strains are more heat and humidity tolerant, and I can see the different shape of the leaf, less lobed, but are there other differences, too? Are they taller, for example? More or less sun tolerant? Less winter hardy? Or possibly they have other requirements that I need to know about, something I haven't even thought of?
My other question is about the tags that come with the plants from TNN. They are the ones with the color photos, the name of the plant and they are huge. Do those last very long, years and years, or should I plan on making my own, better name tags/markers for them?
I'm going to need some serious help planning out the arrangement of what I bought. I bought too many in the early coops of the silver and green and too few of the corals and yellows and am kicking myself for buying zero of the chartreuse. Now all there is left is Ginger Ale and Lime Ricky, but my garden center always has a lot of the new ones and I can bite the bullet and buy one or two at retail. Key Lime Pie is the next one I am after.
