Does anyone know what this is? This tiny flower is less than 1", the plant is about 2". It is flowering right now in our woods in upstate New York. The area is shady and mossy. First, here is the bud.

Here is the way they seem to be distributed over small areas. The woods are glowing with them!

Polygala paucifolia, I believe; you might check whether other species occur in your area.
