A rose breasted grosbeak. They may have been around but I didn't notice them. This is my first year with feeders so that could be why I've never noticed them before. I hate to take it with me as I would hate to have it stolen so I may go back tomorrow and see if it is there! What a cool looking bird! | I had not seen the bluebird fledglings for two weeks when this one showed back up asking to be fed. The male bluebird kept laying the bug down and picking it up. Was he showing the youngster how to catch a bug? He never did feed the youngster. After a while he took the bug into the box to the new babies. The youngster sat awhile with a sad look and then finally flew off. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| While I was trying to get a picture of the White-breasted Nuthatch at my peanut feeder I caught a little flash of yellow, something out of the ordinary in that part of the yard because the goldfinch feeder is on the other side of the house. Although it was raining and I had to shoot through the window over to my neighbor's cherry tree, I at least was able to get one picture of this unfamiliar visitor before he flew off. He's definitely not a regular in my yard and although I'm very weak in warbler ID, I think it's a Common Yellowthroat. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| I don't have any photos for you, but as I sit here this a.m. reading each wonderful thread, I cannot believe the activity on my patio, both at the hanging feeders and bowl on the ground, with an oriole visitor (first ever), goldfinches, titmice, juncos, chipping sparrows.
A crow (I imagine it's the same one) has been coming and going all morning to the bowl. He and a squirrel were "debating" over whose turn it was! The squirrel climbed the pole to the hanging feeder. |

| I think these two regulars are planning to raise a family nearby, but so far they seem to be just enjoying the food service. The male had his work cut out for himself the other day as he had a difficult time chasing another male cardinal who seemed to have plans on hanging around. They must have flown around the yard in circles at ten plus times before the newcomer seemed to get the idea that this yard was not likely to become his new hangout. | Granny Grunt, it just may be that the 'cherry' in 'cherry crunch suet' is what your robin was going after. I've never seen robins go after my suet, but then again mine aren't usually of the gourmet variety that yours is.
A few years back I bought some dried grubs which I put out on a brick in the garden. It didn't take long for the robins to find them. I couldn't believe how many of those grubs the robin stuffed in its beak before flying back to feed its nestlings. |

Yep - they breed in the arctic, and winter right down to the antarctic. One from over here (northeast England) reached Melbourne, Australia, 22,000 km by sea, when only about 4 or 5 months old.

| Great pictures folks.
Thanks everyone. Thanks Resin for the Id on the Song Sparrow.
Thymewarp, that Cherry Crunch was definitely a mistake on my part. All of the birds absolutely love it. In fact, if these characters keep eating like they have been the past week, I am going have to come out of retirement to continue feeding them.
Pelle, I am really going to do my best to keep that woodpecker coming back to my place!
Same goes for the Grosbeak.

| Love the Blue Heron!
Rose, I DID send you some Blue Jays. Please let me know if you would like more.
They are eating me out of house and home.
However, I am really pumped! Three new birds to my area in a week. Two today, the Red Headed Woodpecker and an Indigo Bunting. Sorry about the quality of the Bunting's shot, but the sky had darkened and it was beginning to storm.

Still laughing at the pic of the fox eating the jelly.

Deb, I sure hope those Indigo Buntings hang around. It sat out in the Mock Orange bush sheltering itself from the rain for quite a while.
