I am as Beginner as they come! I am in Lexington, KY and I believe that is considered Zone 6 on the map. I am basically wondering if anyone could tell me how to find out which flowers would grow/bloom the best in my area. I am reading as much as possible and have noticed the flowers list "Hardiness." If my Zone/area is not specified under this category, does that mean that particular type won't grow well here?
ANY ADVICE to a beginner gardener would be welcome!!!

Hello Ihester! Welcome! You are in a great zone. Too many flowers to list. Among the perennials I grow Daylilies, coneflowers, rubeckias, Roses are my favorites. Daylilies are wonderful, almost a completely carefree, beautiful plant, and there are thousands of cultivars to chose from.
Dave's garden Plantfiles is a great place to get some ideas. You can look up all kinds of plants from veggies to annual and perennial flowers.
We can grow alot of the northern plants , as well as plants meant for more southern gardens, with winter protection.

Often the hardiness factor will be listed as a range (ie. zones 3-7) Sometimes they will say "cold-hardy to zone ___" which will tell you the coldest range it can live in. You should also look at the amount of water/ rainfall and the type of soil you have. You wouldn't want to put desert plants in an area that gets a lot of rain, for example.
Some of the easiest annuals (live for one season and die at frost) are the most colorful...zinnias, petunias, marigolds...
