I've photographed this plant on two occasions now. The last time was growing on Heathland at The Malvern Hills last year, and now near the coast here in Cornwall. It looks to me like it should belong with the Forget-me-nots, but I can't tie it down to a species, or am I completely off the scent?

Thanks to all for your help

Andy

Alkanet Anchusa officinalis. Same family Boraginaceae as forget-me-nots.

I'm not sure. It's very similar, but doesn't have the fiddleneck arrangement of flower buds, rather they seem to spring from axillary stems at a leaf node? Anyone else got any comments, clarification?

Regards

Andy

That's because it's the first flowers of the spring - the 'fiddleneck' appearance will develop later as more flowers come out. The buds for them are starting to appear.

Thank you. I'll take that as evidence from someone who clearly knows this plant well.

Solved.
