| Ladies and gentleman!
Greetings, one and all! Hope you've all been doing well since I
was last able to visit.
I have great news I would like to share. We have, get ready for this,
a deck! Yes, a genuine, bonafide, tried and true deck! We're also getting
a French door put in Monday and it will be complete. I have been crying,
dying and trying to get a deck for years. Well, I suppose taking a full time
job helped, but by golly we've got one!
Hope I don't sound like I'm bragging, it is my excitement, my dream come
true. Finally, finally, finally! I can't wait to show pictures of the improvement
it has made.
And get this! Guess who (ahem, starts with an H) has been cleaning up his
(add a U) piles of crap lately? (Add a couple B's) Yep, he comes home from
work, puts on his (add a Y on the end and you've got it) play clothes and gets
busy until dark. Then we light the tiki torches and relax but for the deafening
sounds of the frogs all around us.
It is truly fabulous! Wish we could have a party and have all of you here. I'm so
excited and just wanted to share!
Miss you all so much. Hope you have been doing well, and taking care. Know
that I think of all of you often!
Karen Marie - who is heading off for the kitchen to make more pink lemonade.

| Aw, thanks, all. Yep. Not that long ago I was not very happy with hubby at all. Of
course, it was a pretty bad time of the month to complain, if you get my drift, but
that has passed.
The deck has, I think, made hubby proud. He feels a sense of accomplishment, and
maybe for the first time in a long time. I think it really helped being able to afford the
right materials for a change, and everything went into place great. My parents were
an incredible help, the two of them, and Wub and I and of course the pets all put in
our help and it was done. Quickly, I might add.
Hubby has begun cleaning and clearing and working his butt off like I've never seen
him work before. It is really nice.
And while I'm on a good note here, I must brag on hubby. Since this time last year,
he has lost 60 pounds. He hasn't put an update on the refrigerator note board for
a few weeks, but I know he must have lost another ten in the past month. What a
difference in his energy, his appearance, his attitude. Mind you, he's no small man
to begin with, so he'll never wear a size 32 Speedo. No man should wear a Speedo,
by the way, ha, ha!
I'm really loving this! Thanks for listening to me gush, LOL.

| Way to go Karen Marie!!! Most excellent news on the deck! But even better news on hubby's weight loss. I bet he feels much better without the extra baggage.
My own hubby cleaned out the little shed yesterday. It had become rat infested. He stores his scraps of lumber in there. He's a carpenter and he's really brought home a bunch of leftovers from jobs. The building was jam packed full. In addition, he hauled off about a dozen doors that had been removed that he somehow thought we might use. Yesterday he loaded up a 16 ft. lowboy trailer to the gills and hauled it off. Unbelievable how many rats he found in that building. It was quite disgusting! They're all gone now and he straightened up everything else in there. He stained the floor to get rid of the smell of the rats. It looks a million times better now. |

| just came in ,cause the sun got over the house , too hot .nuts , i only had 1/4 cup of grape nuts ,so will have cereal flavored blueberries . jo , i'm more the carpenter than dh , he doesn't have the pride not to try to cut corners . i have to watch him like a hawk , and honestly , cant leave him or turn my back when we are building something . he's learning that i walk with a level ,square , plumbob . my grand pa was a master carpenter as were all his boys , except daddy , who only laid hardwood floors for awhile . back before they had these floor hammers .he knew the basics tho and passed a lot of info to me , growing up .i waited almost seven years for this room , and decided i'll just hire someone to do it . i'm too old to do much any more and this guy has always done this for a living and besides being a friend to his whole family , he will only furnish the labor and know how . i'll supply the material . i guess that makes me the contractor . why is your boy so far away ? do you come spend any great amount of time around him? get a travel trailer or motor home and put it in a park for a coupla months and spend some time with him. and good morning , bettyp , what are you up to ? our nights are cooling off to the sixties now so guess all the hot , killing weather is over for this year . it used to be middle of sept last year and year before , cool nights started in aug . i want to start on glass painting in the next few days . sally |

| I just discovered this and have spent way more of my morning than I should reading all the posts...
it isn't morning any more!
I can so empathise with all those still living will pile of 'useful stuff' brought home by hubby.
I lived with a carpenter for nearly 10 years - and it is true what they say, a carpenter's house is never finished.
We had timber stacked along the hall, gib board in the bedroom (you guys call it dry wall I think)
new hot water cylinder sat in the spare room & was never connected (sigh - I just wanted a decent hot shower)
we also had a brand new toilet bowl & cistern beside the bed, handy place to hang my clothes at night.
Then there were all the pavers, slate tiles & floor tiles in piles out side - I had a path through the weeds to the washing line - and I had to keep that clear with the weed eater.
The holes in the fence meant the dogs couldn't be left outside unsupervised & poo patrol - well it wasn't easy in knee deep grass.
Mowing was a challenge - normally I would just use the weed eater to get it down to manageable length & then try to mow when I could.
Didn't help that we were away almost every weekend at dog shows & both working full time.
Our sleep out was full of stuff he had stored at his ex wife's house until I provided him with a bigger better store room.
I got on very well with his ex & know she was so pleased to see the back of all that stuff.
I have to admit I kind of got my revenge when I left him - he got the house but I didn't bother taking all my junk, just the stuff I really wanted & needed.
I am not game to ask his new girlfriend if she has managed to get him to clean up things - they are building a new house on a lifestyle block so I suspect there will be even bigger piles of stuff than I ever had to navigate.
I also suspect the house was given a major clean up to make it marketable & that all the junk migrated to the lifestyle block long before they did.
I look at my neatly mowed (by darling husband) lawn, deck he happily paid to have built & landscaped yard & am so glad I walked away & met someone totally different.
His philosophy is that if it needs doing - pay a professional to do it right.
I just don't look into the spare room where he is building his new computer.
The door is shut on the mess & we are both happy :) |

| Dalfyre, happy to hear your moved on and found someone who is willing to work along side of you. I have this mess in my small dining area, a divider that had to be redone (previous owners did it themselves) so we have more support for the ceiling. Got all the material, but project isn't being finished, so I sit and wait some more. He has been retired for several years and not in the best of health, so he does the work slowly. I think we will end up having a more experienced person finish it up and while he is at it I want a new floor in my kitchen. Good thing I like to work out in the yard so I'm the one that is trying to put that in order. Work is never done, and retirement is a full time job. |

| When I see all the wonderful gardens with great art I want to go out and throw so much of DH's stuff away. I'm beginning to think he knows what he has out there and would miss a lot. If he would finish his project for storing the lawnmower & edger that would help a lot. I'm getting more done on my bowling ball with the pennies, but have a long way to go. I think it will look nice once I have finished it. So many of my projects never get done before I start another, can't accomplish much that way. Keep on posting all those great pictures I do enjoy seeing them. |

| Well, darn I managed to hit a wrong button and lose everything. Sammut, I saw the round hoop with ivy on it in another post and never thought it was a hula hoop. I really think is looks great.
I don't think I will every get caught up with all of you. I have at least 4 projects I want to do, but for some reason can't seem to stay with one until it is finished. The bowling ball is at least started and I've got a lot of glass treasures to make totems, and of course I do want a chair or two made into flower pots. DH is planning on going fishing tomorrow so maybe I should just take my stash out and see what all I have to work with. Have so much work in the house to do, but much rather be out playing in the yard. Bowling ball is starting to look better each time I look at it, so will be happy when that is done and ready for a place in the yard.
My biggest problem right now is downloading pictures into computer and then losing them. I have no idea what I am doing half of the time when it comes to sorting out pictures and documents. Have to take a whole day to get rid of things I don't need. Never did learn how to organize. |

| Hi,
I have been lurking and love the thread.
What are the laws here in the US regarding dumps? Can I go there and pick up what i want?
I have an idea about bottles that some of you may be interested. I have been saving bottles, especially the small Perrier water bottles for sometime.
My plan is to cut them and save the bottoms for decorating some paths. I will cut them about 2 inches from the bottom and place them amongst the broken paving stones. I will just bury them 1 inch and make them the same height the stones so no one trips on them.
Does any of you think it will work? |

| I think most U.S. dumps are closed now. Fear of liability lawsuits, etc. You should check with th people who run the dump. Better sources in the States are probably places where glass is dropped off for recycling or bars that serve a lot of stuff from blue bottles.

| Dumps seem to be a meeting place on Saturday for the 'Gentlemen'! Mmm, strange!
The dumps (recycling centres) I know of, have different 'pits' for glass, plastic, etc. One could just go there and collect whatever one wanted, loading the car/truck right beside the 'pit'. Once it moves from these 'recycling centres' who knows where they end up and there is pretty well no chance for one to go and hunt for anything then. So its a case of making a trip to the dumps before collection occurs. PS: high end towns with their own dumps/recycling centres may be a good place to aim for if you are hunting for 'special items'! Good place to find margerine & yogurt tubs if you want to plant a lot of seedlings...they just need some holes pierced in the base of the plastic containers. |

| ps. I should have mentioned many town have their own 'dumps/recycling centres'. These are not the huge hilly, smelly places one sees along the highways! Rather, they are tucked in within village owned land, generally in an isolated spot! If you have a 'pickup' each week at your house, either household or agricultural matter, stop and chat with the driver of the truck and he'll guide you to 'the spot'! Or you could call your local town hall. The police too would probably know the nearest place to go! As I mentioned, its a fellows 'hangout' on Saturdays. I know of one person who takes his son with him each Saturday when he goes to dump weekly trash! Now the son says 'are we going to the dump today...'- and he is only 3 years old! Mars vs Venus! What can I say... |

Simigal,
You will fit right in I think all of us have a very long list of things we WANT TO DO/TRY
spider07,
I think that would work just fine.
The dump here is closed to the puplic we take our stuff to one site and they truck it to another . you just back up to a truck trailer and through your stuff in/over a wall into the trailer.

| Oh the fun of being a junk collector, although many won't agree. Think I'll have to find something to do with old, old car parts that DH just can't seem to get rid of. Instead of throwing the old part away when adding a new one he tosses it in the garage, then to add insult to injury when we moved he had to take all those"valuable parts" with him although they are taking up much needed space.
Few years ago the city brought large dumpsters and set them throughout the neighborhood so everyone could dump their junk in it. Hoping for another repeat of that then make the rounds and find out what I can use. Must check with city hall. LOL |

I have a Kodak easy share and I'm ok in transferring them to computer, but then they have albums which really messed me up because I have wrong pictures in wrong albums and then can't seem to find them in Kodak pictures or My pictures. Tillandsias - I'm hunting for a photo I have of tillandsias used as a 'curtain' at Fairchild Tropical Garden. First cat gut - fishing line - is strung in horizontal lines, then vertical lines. Where each vertical and horizontal gut cross over, they are 'knotted together' till the entire 'curtain' is made up of the catgut knotted into 'squares'. Then a tillandsia is tied onto each horizontal line, ensuring its in the middle of the 2 knots till the entire space is filled with these tillandsias. If I cant find the photo, I'll make sure I take another one next time I visit FTG. It looks so easy to do as long as each horizontal and vertical string is held taughtly, I suppose using nails on a large piece of plywood. Unique, eyecatching and very, very clever!
Have you seen this 'Flower Pouch' from Thompson & Morgan Seed catalogue? I wonder how hard it would be to make one! http://www.tmseeds.com/product/m10844.html

| Hi, just wanted to add a bit in here about the flower pouches...go to park seed...much cheaper, and they have more varieties. You can get a free catalog. I order wholesale, but they are available retail as well. They have hanging baskets with octagons cut in the sides, which you plant from, creating a very full planter...those could be made out of a .99 cent hanging basket from Wally world DIY... |

| Thank you all.I'm still looking for bowling balls.Things kinda took a dive around here last week.Monday night my cousin called me and told me she has breast cancer in one breast and two lymph nodes, and then last night she called crying to tell me they found spots on her lung. She will be 38 ,Oct.30th,married and 2 small children. She doesn't drink and has never smoked or done any drugs. All she has ever done is go to school, she has her masters degree and work and take care of her family. And then Wednesday my mom fell and broke her arm just below the shoulder twice. So if everyone would pray for them I'd be ever so grateful. So when I got on here today and seen what had happened, my heaven sent angel really put a big smile on my face and happy tears down my cheeks.

They seem to like to slide down so there I am trying to hold on to several pennies at a time until the glue starts to dry. I did glue a vase unto a copper color base and it looks like it was made that way. Now to decide what to build up from there.

Pegi, I have done 11 bb's and have not had trouble with anything sliding off. I used Silicone 11 Window and Door sealer. It is clear and does a great job. I use the sealer in a caulk gun and it is easy to use. Best of luck.
