I'm tired of graph paper, and the ones I found on-line were pretty annoying--very limited in what vegetables you could add, and you couldn't select a whole group and move them together (ie a row of beans)--you had to move each individual plant to rearrange your plan.
OK, I decided to try Plangarden.com, since it is specifically vegetable gardening, which is what I was looking for. I signed up for the free 45 day trial, and so far love everything except the run-arounds to print it. You can enter individual plants, an entire row of a vegetable, or block off an area for a type of plant, which was nice. You can enter in any named variety you want, too.
My only gripe so far is the print feature. You basically have to zoom it so it fills your entire screen, then hit control + P, to print the screen, or it prints out like a postage stamp. No "shrink to fit page" or anything similar. I can live with it, I guess, since it does everything else I wanted. It even has harvest journals, where you can record how much you harvested from different crops, by whatever unit of measure you want, and what dates you harvested. There are also journals where you can record when you worked in your garden, like when you started seed, when you put them in the greenhouse, when you treated for bugs or fungus, when you mulched, etc.
The only other potential downside I could see was that it saves it on-line, not on your computer, so if you let your subscription lapse or if the company goes out of business, you lose your plans and journals. However, the company points out that if your computer crashes, or you want to access it from a different computer, it is right there, so that point goes both ways. I guess this is when you want to print a copy for your garden file, so either way, you are covered.
Just thought I'd pass on my experiences with it so far! I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who tries it!
