I'm not sure I identified this plant properly. Can anyone else confirm or correct?

It looks like Song of India...but I am a little worried about the light yellow color..is this because it is inside in the shade? There are some lesser known tropical plants that are a longer leaf version of Song of India too. How long are the leaves? aloha

Aloha!! Wow, Hawaii! My aunt went to university there eons ago and I've only ever been fortunate to see the airport during our brief stopovers enroute to the Philippines from Canada.

I know, the colour is what's throwing me off, too. It really is somewhat light, almost as if it's faded. There's actually no hint of yellow, either, and from what I've seen from other pictures, the white portion should be a creamy yellow if it really is a "song of india". BTW, it is in a south-facing window.

As for the size of the leaves, it's still a baby -- most of the leaves are about 4 inches long, with the longest being 6 inches. It is currently in a 6 inch pot.

I've attached another photo, this one for a farther distance.

Hi again: Looking at your latest photo, I think it is a Dracaena sanderiana...a cousin to song of India. ...but then it could be some other thing I do not have in my indoor plant book. Aloha
PS...I know tropical plants are exotic to you but I went gaga over the spring flowers of Canada earlier this year. :0)

D. fragrans --- hmmm...

The one I have at home is definitely like the 2nd picture in the link, with that lemon/lime colouring. The one I have at work (pictured) does look like a faded version of the first picture in the link.

I didn't realize a single variety (same name) could have different colourings.

p.s. Plantladylin, I'm glad to see you're up and about! I was worried about you after hearing of the Daytona fires!

Up and about? I don't understand. I haven't been ill. Are you thinking about someone else?

We did have one fire here in Daytona about 4-5 miles away. No homes were lost, Thank Goodness, and the fire is now contained!

There are a few fires in a county about an hour south of us ... a lot of homes totally destroyed. I saw on the news where they arrested one young man for arson and also a woman who set one fire because she said she was bored! I hope they stay in jail a very long time!

I heard about another fire in Ocala (about an hour NW of us) and a couple of fires in South Florida too. We sure could use some rain down here! Very, very dry!

I meant "up and about" as in "not forced to relocate somewhere with no internet activity due to a) having to evacuate your house or b) having to sort through the charred rubble of your house". :-) You were my first friend on Dave's Garden, not like that I'd confuse you with someone else!!

It's been the opposite here in Toronto, we've seen quite a bit of rain the last two weeks or so. Not complaining too much -- I just seeded my lawn so it's saving the effort of having to water it!

LOL, okay, now I understand!

Fires sure are scary ... almost as scary as hurricanes but at least with canes' we know they are coming! I just don't understand people who deliberately start fires! We had some really awful wild fires back in1998 and some were from lightning but a lot were arson too.

I have heard that some areas are having a lot of rain. Sure hope some of it comes our way in the near future. We have been having some really hot temperatures early this year. Our normal temp's for this time are low to mid 80's and we've been having some days in the mid 90's. We were in Orlando last Saturday and it was 99 degrees. Waaay too hot! I can just imagine what July, August and September are going to be like! I might just be wishing I was in Alaska later this summer!

I didn't realize I was your first friend here in the garden! Don't you just love it here? I have made some really great friends here in this garden and have learned so much from so many knowledgeable people. Most of my time is spent in the African Violet forum but I do check in on some of the others at times too.

Well, you have a great rest of the weekend, my friend!

Blessings,
Lin
