I am having the hardest time getting this plant to bud out... It starts to bud and then the buds die. What am I doing wrong. I pulled it out of the ground and moved to a pot thinking my soil sucked which it does and put it in Miracle Grow Soil... I noticed that there were very very little roots, just little white spindles. I bought this and it came just a stick... The other one is doing better... I see roots on it... I already killed one... Any ideas?

Is this something that you bought and planted fairly recently? If it doesn't have well developed roots yet, it's in the plant's best interest not to flower, flowers take a ton of energy and it would be better off spending its energy developing good strong roots instead. So it could be that some buds started to form, but the plant didn't really have the energy to keep them going so they died.

I actually bought last year at Autumn Nursery. Not the roots are really anemic, I bought three. One is budding out ok, one died, and the one I am nursing's roots are barely there.

When you say then that you pulled it up and put it in a pot, how did you actually remove it? I'm trying to figure out if you lost a bunch of roots during the process of digging it up, or if the roots were already in bad shape when you bought it.

I dug around it, it was really easy to remove. The dirt around it didn't seem to have any roots, but I didn't think of maybe I cut them. I went and rechecked the hole... I don't think I cut of any roots.
I suspect it really never established anything but these white spindles at the bottom of the plant. Which I did try and not disturb...I wonder if I put some root compound on it?
