I have a refrig. that is 15 years old. In the last year or so I have a cold spot that will freeze things. I have turned down the refrig. to less than '2' (out of 7 settings). The freezer is turned down to just under '3' (out of 7 settings) I don't feel I can turn the settings down anymore. I need to get a couple of thermometers, to see just where I stand with temp.
What could be causing the refrig. to have a spot that freezes food?

Does it have a self defrosting freezer?

The timer may have gone out. Had it replaced twice in our Whirlpool Serva-door, but bought it in '79. And the replacements were years apart.

Would like to buy another, but noone makes anything like it now, so just hope it keeps running. We clean the coils every week or so, and replace the water filter twice a year.

Bubba-
yes, it is self-defrosting...Timer, what timer? Asked my DH and he said he would think that there would be frost in the fridge if the self-defrosting wasn't working properly.
I have three cats and a yellow lab, I tend to clean the coils about 4x/year.

I never had this problem until 8 or so months ago and I am wondering if it is getting more so.

The timer is behind a panel in the back of the refigerator. It is not something you would ever notice - at least we didn't. Found a retiring serviceman who showed us.
Might be worth a service call to have it repaired - for us it was. And through the first tech, we found the second who lives just a few blocks away.
