Not since I lived in Ohio have I seen such beautiful specimens of lilacs! Thanks so much for the gorgeous pictures of the President Lincoln and for the lovely article. : )
Lois, thanks for the wonderful article. I am enjoying the lovely fragrance of my lilacs right now. My niece just had her first baby and I'm going to get them a lilac. I'm thinking it will bloom right around the baby's birthday.
Our lilacs in Kentucky do okay, they smell great and they don't really rank up with other spring blooming bushes though and in late summer they get the white like mildew on them often.
Then we moved to Michigan and I found out what the craze about lilacs are all about. Oh MY! They rank up very high, even above other spring blooming bushes.
So what is it - just a little bit of a cooler climate Ohio, France, and ILL have, or a more sandy soil?????
