I just had an exchange of Dmails with a member who 'just now found out about the Marketplace'. This is an active DG member. I think maybe more could be done to make the Marketplace more prominent.

That's what I keep saying!!!

It needs to be advertised with a big announcement on all of the pages.

We're spreading the word, little by little. :) I'm continuing to enhance the Marketplace and soon will be adding features that will make it more visible on the DG homepage, similar to how the forums, thread watcher, etc, work.

Good to hear Dave!!

Would it be considered "self promotion" if I headed over to the Canadian forum and started a "Have you all seen the new Marketplace?" thread??

With Dave doing all the really hard work, I think we should all take a minute and pop into the other forums to spread the word.

Getting a new project out there takes a lot of effort and doesn't happen overnight. If we spread the news to our own group of contacts outside Dave's Garden, it will certainly help!

I'll put a note in my newsletters going out this week.

Great job, Dave!

OK I have just posted the following message on the Plumerias forum and will do so on a couple of others I frequent:

"Those of us who have been participating in the startup of this feature are of course already aware, but it has been asked that we all spread the word about the new DG Marketplace, right here on your own Dave's Garden. Trusted sellers that you can chat with on D-mail, what more can you ask? Great features for sellers too. Check it out!!! It's on the top right hand side of your home page... have fun!"

I have been mentioning it in various threads as a matter of course.

I was surprised to see no mention in the DG weekly newsletter though.

And, I think there needs to be some promo outside of DG... that will attract more "victims"! LOL

Podster,

You are too funny! But you're correct, it does need to come up in Google searches. I'm sure Dave will be seeing to that as soon as he gets a chance.

It may seem slow for sellers but many of you really specialize in a particular kind of plant like plumerias. As a beginner in both brugs and plumerias we are just looking for the 'average' brug to get started.

For the specialty growers, they will eventually find you and buy buy buy.

Dave... Is it possible to make a sticky tab or whatever you call it on the forum pages like next to the one that says products and service, guides and information , about us. ect... Make one that says MarketPlace so buyers and sellers can go straight to it. Just a thought.

I had just realized that I'd forgotten about the DG Marketplace, so I went and checked it out for the first time in...months!

At first, it was quite 'slow' there, and nothing interested me...but now I see that someone I once traded with is selling the same plant that I bought from an ebay seller last week.
If only I hadn't *forgotten* about the DG Marketplace...I could have bought it from her!

I just did a search to see if this was being discussed anywhere, and came upon this thread.

I realize that you have a link on the sidebar...but I was wondering, like starlight1153, if you could 'subtly promote' it in a more noticeable place, like a tab on top of the page...then, when I'd see that, I'd remember to check it out!

There is a Marketplace link on your home page -- right at the top
under the main tabs. It's where the banner is located.

The Marketplace link does not stand out in anyway or indicate what it really is. Each time I sell plants, I get so many emails and dmails saying, "Why don't they put a bigger sign somewhere?". I don't know.

I think the reason it's not more prominent is that there's a desire to keep DG from feeling too commercial, and if you have a big Marketplace banner that's really noticeable, people are going to start feeling that the focus is shifting too much toward selling stuff.

I can understand that, Ecrane, because not everyone was excited about the Marketplace.
And...a lot of people only want to trade. I am doing both all the time. Out of the last sale I had I ended up with a friend by trading over 100.00 worth of plant material and we have had our laughs trying to even up the trade.

I was having a bad day yesterday;)
After reading your post, june...I do note that the link is there (thanks for pointing it out!)...BUT...it's NOT there when you're 'within' a thread and you scroll to the top.

I guess I spend more time 'within threads' than I do on the homepage...my time there is usually brief!

If you should post back to this thread...scroll to the top and you'll see that the link is NOT there.

nah.. It really wasn't worth my time or trouble.. I am with gessie.. I would rather keep trading.. thats what Daves is all about anyway.. the friendships built.. I gave it a try, it didn't work out.. I have no desire for it to slap me in the face each day when I come to visit Daves.

So sorry Fran that you had such a bad experience and I sincerely hope that the Seller is still not on the Marketplace. If they are, I think you should file a complaint with admin here. Touch wood, but all my buying experiences have been very good. I'm also on the Sellers end and have had the best time doing this as well as communicating with some very nice buyers.

Personally, I wish the Marketplace was promoted more. I think there may be a way of doing this without being commercial or blatant about it. Maybe a featured ad - like "click here" for the Marketplace. If you want it, you can go there, if not don't click! The Marketplace seems to have just blended into the home page and I really think a lot of people have forgotten about it. Most of my recent sales are coming from outside sources that I have been directing here.

I have to say though...Dave's is fairly well promoted on the internet. If you do a search for a certain item that is on the Marketplace, it does show up fairly high in the internet web placings.

Not sure what is going on here. Maybe poor Dave is taking a rest on this one, after creating such a good site and putting so much work into it.

I am loving DG Markeplace. So far, I have had only plant die shortly after I got it. The seller is such a nice person...I didn't say anything, but overall, I am having really good luck with what I buy.

I just tried this...When we search PlantScout or for a plant and we're told X (number) vendors have this plant for sale...why don't the vendors in the MarketPlace that have it also show up in that search?
Garden Watchdog vendors show up, but not MarketPlace vendors.

It's probably a lot more complicated than my little brain can comprehend! (Ü)

They can and some do.I think it depends on the advertising budget the vendor has available.

One thign I noticed today was I was hunting for an old thread to help somebody out and I used the search button and not only did the threads come up but also items from off the Dg market that had those words in their items. LOL At first I thought I ws on the market place and had hit some wrong buttons.

I like the Dg Market place. I sell a little been buying a bunch. Have had lots of good experiences. Still trade and gettign ready to do major clean out for stuff for give away on the plant and seed forum soon. Only ever had one bad experience and it wasn't worth complaining about. Those things happen sometimes, no matter how careful folks try. I just figure it comes with the territory of buying live things on th enet and havign them travel hundreds of miles for days.

I know Dave and all them folsk so busy with hurricanes and floodings, but I hope some day he gets the categories broke down into sub categories. remmebrered somebody had somethign I wanted and couldn't afford at the time and had to back through about 30 pages to see if it was still available cuz I couldn't get a search to work right for the marketplace.

Maybe one of these days he wil get little stores designed, but I do feel better about buyign fromDg folks over ebay ones I not familar with. We a family of gardenres and other talents and my way of thinking is family of sorts still supports family.
