This Agave is starting to flower now. It is sittuated in Dal Fouche Springs in Gauteng South Africa. I have known this plant since I can remember.(1979 about). This is the second time only that this plant shoots up like this since I can remember.

Why not Agave parryi? A. americana has longer leaves.

Not familiar with that one - that's why I said "or close relative" ;-)

There are about 250 close relatives. The photo is very similar to A. parryi in A. Graf's "Tropica" and to A. parryi var. huachucensis in M.& G Irish's "Agaves, Yuccas, and Related Plants". Although, the plant looks a bit large to fit Mary Irish's description.

That's a beautiful agave. Give it a big hug for me, okay?

"Eina !"

the word for 'ouch' in my language.
I also think parryi because of the shape of the leaves but then then the size confuses me.
