The problem is that the camera is focusing on the soil in the background instead of the plant. Check to see if the camera has a function called "macro" (it's usually indicated by a little flower symbol like this: [HYPERLINK@www.hp.com] ) and use that to get a good close-up. The other thing you can try is to place a piece of paper (preferably dark colored) directly behind the object you are trying to shoot. At least this way if the camera focuses on the background it's a closer background.
