My husband says this is a weed but I've never seen a weed like this. It came up during the winter in a pot that was in the greenhouse.

Could that be some type of rudbeckias? (Daysies?).

Thanks for responding, Lily_love. Hmmm, perhaps it is Rudbeckia. I couldn't find a good picture of Rudbeckia foliage on the Internet to make a comparison. I'll know if flowers are produced, but there's no sign of a flower head at this point. The leaves are very soft and now I see very fine hair-like growth on the under surface of the leaves and stalk.

I'm not advocating that you toss it just yet, but it does look an awful lot like Conyza candensis (Horseweed) [HYPERLINK@agri.astate.edu] [HYPERLINK@www.weedbiology.uckac.edu] I don't think it's a Rudbeckia but I'm not 100% sure.

If the leaves are fuzzy it's possible it's not horseweed. Horseeweed is not fuzzy to the touch.
