Mine would have weeds because the wind and birds drop seeds onto it and the very loose fertile growing medium helps the weeds grow wonderfully. I haven't done a true lasanga bed yet as I have already made larger raised beds of other materials but I do notice that where I have laid cardboard or thick layers of newpapers and covered them with the pulled weeds(seeded ones go into a burning barrel)the ground is much softer, looser, and has a good worm population as well as lots of roly poly bugs.

EvaMae, I think we all get some weeds from seeds brought in by birds and worms. Fortunately they are easily pulled before their roots get down too deep...
