Excellent tutorial and I agree with you especially on the mosses. I'm lucky enough to have them growing in my woodland area. The brass buttons is a lovely little plant and, yes, it would look like a fern.
Ohh I recently added some to my bonsai and it looks really cool. And sooo easy to take care of.

I just found the tiniest moss I have ever seen growing believe it or not in my walkway. I scraped off some and am going to use it on the tiniest mame I have. Should look awesome.
I've been able to resuscitate a tiny tree that was "sort of" bonsai...just took it and kept clipping branches, etc. until it turned into a tree with a wide trunk, over about a four year period. Grandson found it planted in a trough with accompanying small house, tools, etc. and nearly destroyed it. It is on the mend and I plan to plant again into a trough but keep it out of reach of little hands. Also will under plant with the brass buttons as well as mosses.
