| I was interested in selling here. Been watching the progress and maybe even missed a discussion about the following.
I use ebay now. I think most folks go to ebay looking to sell or buy items. In wanting to use DGs online auction, how are buyers going to find potential items for sale here as compared to ebay? Maybe there is another thread about this? I would likely be selling NON gardening items which contributes to my curiousity about this.
Thx! |

| We keep calling this an auction, but it's NOT. It's a
a marketplace with set prices. There is no bidding. |

| Morph ~ I did ask how are buyers going to be attracted to the DG Marketplace. Beyond those of us that are DG victims, there needs to be outside promotion. Hopefully that is in the offing.
OTOH, I believe this is to be gardening, outdoors & farming related merchandise only. pod |

| My guess would be that once Dave has things "done" enough that he feels comfortable with it that there would be some effort to advertise/get the word out. I have a feeling since he went with the approach of launching it sooner rather than later even though everything wasn't finished yet, there wouldn't be a ton of effort to bring in new users until the initial bugs were worked out and he had time to finish at least the original list of things that he didn't have time to incorporate before launching. |

| Dave...
You really have done an amazing job of bringing this site together...
I have a couple of suggestions...and I truly offer this kindly as I know how hard you've worked on this.
Would it be possible to put a poll on one of these weeks to ask how many members actually know that the Marketplace exists? I have a feeling that many members are missing this as I've read this in a few threads. I realize the Marketplace was highlighted on the Home Page for a while and then disappeared. I finally realized you moved the link to the top bar, but if you're not looking for it I'm not sure you would realize it's there.
The second thing is when you're viewing a specific category. Is it possible to put a side bar of the other catagories available to click on? Once you're viewing one category, you seem to get stuck there unless you press the back button.
I have to say that I'm truly impressed at how quickly the Marketplace offerings have made it into major search engines. I did a search on a plant the other day on Yahoo and sure and behold - a Daves Marketplace listing came up in the top page. I advertise my own business extensively and I realize the what it takes to get these good positions.
Thank you Dave...

Is it correct that the Marketplace is only open to DG members
to sell items? Is it open to the public (non-members) to make purchases?
Well, that's two questions, but I'm not clear about this. ;-)

Anybody can come along and become a DG member. You have to be a signed-in member to either buy or sell.
You don't have to be a subscriber, though, in either case. |

| Terry or Dave, can you confirm that there is NO auctioning? That's hard for me to swallow in considering to sell here. If there is no auctioning, will it only be set prices for the foreseeable future?
Regarding the banner, simple is better imho. I think an eye catchy colored banner that states the main thing (i.e. Dave's Marketplace). Then, maybe a tag line that creates interest and changes periodically or is a constant depending on what you like, Dave? Don't know what your goal is really?
Also, I guess I'm assuming a 'hover' over the banner could share the details that Gordo hit well...
I can't resist an opportunity to play so here's my quick draft of a banner ;)

| Hi. I've been lurking and watching the development of the Marketplace for a while and as a non-techie member who recently made her very first purchase this way (too scared to ever use e-bay) I thought I'd share a few things that I had/have trouble with as a potential buyer:
1. Finding Marketplace after it was moved to a tab. I don't think many people would know what that was. I thought it was more advertising.
2. I'm most comfortable with getting around in my favorite forums and there was no announcement about the new marketplace in the individual forums. I think a 'sticky' or something about it in each discussion forum would really help as I think there are alot of potential new buyers.
3. There is no link to this discussion thread ( that I could find) in the Marketplace itself. I had to ask the seller all my questions to be sure I was doing it right. A link to this thread with some 'How to's would be helpful for new buyers.
Hope this helps. Thanks for the Marketplace.

| Dave: Thank you for putting up that latest poll. As you can see, many people have no idea that the Marketplace exists.
I've also been having a problem where I've been directing people to the marketplace through various sites where I've been featuring my products . I've had many people inquire and some have actually placed orders...However, when I click on their profile, they've just signed up that day in order to buy, and are waiting for a reply by EMAIL. I don't hear from them for days and they think they've been neglected. I think you're probably aware of this problem. But I'm actually, going to add a note to bottom of my listings advising that they have to come back to the site and communicate by D-MAIL. Here's three solutions I can think of for this little problem right now.
1. Request an Email address from the Buyer, so that the Seller can communicate with them.
2. Amend and shorten your 48 hour time period to advise somebody by E-Mail, that they have a D-Maill.
3. Advise to a new Member signing up that they don't recieve Email and must come back to the site to recieve any communications.
I Love what you've created here Dave and I appreciate your hard work. It all takes time for everything to come together and I can see such amazing progress and improvements, day by day. It's great now, but will be fantastic when you iron out all the kinks!
How about offering discount banner rates for Sellers on the Marketplace? Nice way to advertise also and get the word out!
Thank-You Dave

I only wish that I could always be notified by email as soon as I get a D-mail. I don't always know when I get a D-Mail until I happen to come back to the site.
This feature would help so much. Just a thought:)
