Great article! Really enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I was curious if you would share any insight to what types of soil mixes you have the greatest success with? I am stuck there. It seems the stuff I buy holds too much moisture and generally leads to rot.
I use whatever... but it all drains well.. pretty much I put things in cactus soil, but often add extra pumice... most plants you get from a really good cactus nursery are planted in what looks like 50% pumice... some use 80% pumice... and they look great. Hard to rot anything in 80% pumice! Most rec: never reuse soil, but I have a trash can full of soil dumped from old plants, and anything cheap or I dont care about gets reused soil. Not to many regrets so far (though weed are much more of a problem this way).
