We really needed this article today! We've been waiting out the extreme heat to plant a very important little tree. It finally rained last night, so today may be the day! This article will be a handy reference for all to consult. Thanks so much for the timely information! Wish us luck!
If you've got clay like we do, make sure it isn't too wet when you dig... you should be able to pick up a clod and crumble it rather than just having it squish. Otherwise, the clay around the edges of the hole can compact as you dig, and when it dries it'll form a watertight "pot" around your new tree.
