Nice article, Critter. I can't wait for our cherries to ripen. That won't happen until mid July here, but I'll be waiting. My DH wants to use netting again this year, so we probably will. The tree is still small enough to do that. It has lots of cherries this year, goody, goody. It does not have any leaves on the lower limbs. Deer, you see. But most of it is tall enough, finally, to be out of their reach. Your pie recipe looks wonderful, so I will try it. (In July) I will score big points with DH. LOL
I think we've just been lucky that a flock of birds hasn't found our trees and stripped them... netting is probably a good idea. You'll love the pie recipe! I'm visiting my folks this week, and I brought cherries up for a pie that I made last night. I think baking it for half an hour rather than just 15 minutes (as many recipes suggest) at the higher temperature really makes for a nice bottom crust. We ate the other half of the pie this morning for breakfast...
