This is a great article, Critter.
I didn't know that about the hummer-moth. I'm one of those "stomp him into tomorrow" people but now I'll rethink that.

I'm not promising I'll never kill another one, because I might get really overrun with them some year... but I'll relocate at least some of them! Mostly, I think the braconid wasps keep them in check for me.

I likely have only ever seen half a dozen at the most. It is a mystery to me as to what I may do that discourages their presence other than healthy soil, healthy plant healthy fruit. Having said that I shall expect to be overrun with them this summer. :)

I mulch with heavy straw, foliar feed with fish and kelp. That's about all I ever do above the ground. In the soil I use Mycorrhiza and light applications of organic fertilizer no stronger than 4-2-4.

I'm guessing that, like me, you have healthy predator insect populations -- including the braconid wasps that keep the tobacco hornworms in check. :-)
