My final "african" contribution for now...the ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri). Turkey size bird, funny in its slow deliberate walk and lovely lashes...

Strange-looking things!!

Reminds me a bit of Bald Ibis, even though they're not at all related.

Thanks pelletory, Resin - hornbills (there are a few species) are very interesting birds, I will tell some more stories at a later stage.

Don't want to hurt their feelings so I'll whisper: those have to be the ugliest birds I've ever seen.

No Ann! Its the pictures! lol They have their sunday dress on...Seriously, they do look like they could not decide what to be, don't they. Again a special find for me. I have actually only seen them once, on this day. They made a lasting impression, I hope to see them again one day! They definately form part of my top 10 memories on birds, mainly because they are unique and rare to find. They are part of the reason why I love birds!

Bald Ibis will give them a good run for their money . . . ;-)

Wow--they're just about as ugly as our turkeys, LOL! Neat birds though. Thanks for posting.
