Had posted a question on this forum about a painting I have been wanting to do the other night. Had to edit it out!!!
Hubby & I were having a difference in opinion about one I wanted to paint, had to do with horses & he thought it was a little to graphic.
I WON!!!!
He seems to think every-thing should be landscapes & flowers---I am more a realist that loves animals in their natural forms & habitats & like to portray them as such! Guess I'm not what you would call "A delicate flower"!
Have gotten out of painting since we moved here 8 years ago, but now that most of the remodeling & flower beds are done, am getting back into it again.

As I said before, haven't done much in 8 years, a few saw blades for people that wanted them, but nothing "I" wanted to do.
Am so far behind in doing any painting that it took all morning for me to get all of my supplies together! They have been packed up TOO many years!!!!
Also trying to help my friend & neighbor with her remodeling projects so doesn't give me much time for myself, NEED TO CLONE MYSELF!!!!! LOL!
I have always drawn & painted horses. Have always used this as a stress reliever !!! My favorites!!!!

This is one of my charcoal sketches, not yet framed & the whole thing won't fit in the scanner.
Still haven't been able to find enough time to start my painting, trying to juggle everything around & just doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day! Also know myself too well!!! Will end up sitting at the easel until it is done!!!! LOL

Here's far more info then you asked for, but I like to answer fully and I got carried away.

Permaculture would probably be the most honest answer, but I'm a bit of a white tower gardener. I don't really have a garden at the moment, lots of interest, fair amount of knowledge, little progress. But, I did enough work to qualify for a quarter’s credit one summer on permaculture, and my gardening philosophy was greatly influenced by it. I guess that would fall under sustainable gardening forum, but, it really falls under a bunch of forums.

Herbs are my current interest. I'm working on an herb garden. I love water, any type really, even rain. So, ponds are a big interest. I'm trying to make a small one combined with a fairy garden at the moment, but I'm not being able to find the info I need, so I'm kind of stalled. Though I just got an idea!

I'm interested in medicinal herbs, especially since my husband was diagnosised with underactive thyroid recently.

I'm an unrepentant bibliophile so I love talking about books, I love games of all types, and I enjoy cooking.

I technically have a leather working business so I'm on Artisans. I love photography; I probably have over 1500 pictures I've taken on my computer, so I'm on photography. I have two cats so I'm on pets.

Then I just like talking.

I have 82 forums I actively watch and I sometimes scan the others. I daycare so I have a lot of time to be on the computer, and there isn't much else I can do. So, I'm on from 7:30 to 5:30 M-F, or at least on the computer. Then I'm addicted so I'm often on much later.

WOW!!!!
And I thought I stayed busy!!!
I'm into a few of the forums but have no-where near the time to get into as many as you are in!!
I love gardening---any kind. Books, although not much time for them. I am a carpenter & wood worker. I draw, paint, & sculpt--when I get the time. I also love water of any kind, have a small pond in the back yard & a dragon fountain in the front. I also am remodeling our home & have been doing so for 8 years. (Hubby says we'll have to move when I get done---told him "I'll never be done!!!!) LOL.
Guess you can tell, I also like to chat! Some-times tend to get a little long winded on here.
I also have pets (don't ask how many---loose track!), & love to cook.
When I first joined Dave's, I did so because of the gardening, but the more I look into it the more I find new things that I have always been interested in & all the wonderful people out there to chat with about them. I manage to get lost in time when I'm on here!!!!!

I have the time because I day care, so I'm more or less stuck on the computer from 7:30 to 5:30 M-F. The kids pretty much take up the rest of the house. I have a DSD who's 7 and I daycare a 8 and 10 year old. On days when I don't have them, even if I'm trying, I have trouble getting through it all. I also add a 20 mo. old on Friday, and I have just him and my DSD on Saturday and some Sundays, but that's hit and miss on productivity.

Wasn't to happy with the mountains, too close, trees too close! Had to mist out the base of the mountains--will fade the trees in the background a little to add distance.
Will take a little while to get this painting the way I want!!!! (My own worst critic!)
Still have a long way to go before I can consider this a finished painting!
Criticism welcome! Just don't hurt me too bad!!! LOL!!!

I have no criticism! I find the water lapping inland, the lush vegetation, the lifting fog and the majestic mountains to be serene. Looking at your painting makes me relax. I will be interested to see how it changes to suit your vision. :)

Regardless, the horses have a very lovely place to roam!

The fog came about in a totally accidental way---took out some of the trees & misted in the bottom of the mountains---liked the effect & decided to keep it!
Don't think that by the time this is a finished painting, you will think it is that serene! Hubby thinks it is too violent!!! (But has decided he wants to see the finished product!)
Already thinking of painting another to be a companion of this one---little more serene! Think it would make a good matched pair!

I see a horse rolling on the ground and am in denial about the one above it, plummeting it with the great force of it's body!

I'm willing to except it as it is revealed, but for the time being I'll enjoy the calm background. :)

Little by little---& bit by bit,---getting some work done on the painting.
Try to get a little bit of time to work on it each day but doesn't always work out that way. Guess if I stayed off of here, I would have more time to work on my painting!!! LOL!!!
Still a long way to go before it is what I am envisioning it, but starting to show a little of what it should be!
Thanks to all that have given me advise & inspiration to keep on with this!!!

Indiana Gardener,
I can see by the pics that you like to watch horses---must be nice to be able to see them the way you do, never was able to be around them as much as I wanted. Always wanted my own horse farm---but guess it just wasn't in the cards!

fleurone,
Have seen your name in joungershirl's forums, know from checking you out that you are a little far away, but are you going to try to make it to her meet & greet?

This is my very first, but really looking forward to it!!!!

(P.S.)
Know the colors don't match----YET!!!!!

(PS.)
Trying to study it from every-one else's point of view--sometimes loose perspective from working close up---try to distance myself from it to see it the way it is supposed to be seen.
Helps to see it here in a more compact form----see things that need some work, but that's one of the pleasures of painting----can change anything you don't like!!

merigold;

Have seen you following the progress of my painting.
Still have much to do but has been interesting since I haven't been doing much in the way of painting for quite a few years.
I see the things that need to be changed, but would appreciate any output from you! ( or any-one else)
Hoping to fill in the shape of the other horse tomorrow, if I have the time. (Still need to fix the neck on the first one!)---also still need two more legs!!!! Shading will come later.

Two more legs! I thought they were already there! ;) Really the rolling of the horse and the dark colors lend to a certain illusion of what "should" be there. As I'm not familiar with your work I'm clueless how defined the shapes will become...hey that's totally up to you the artist! :)

I am fascinated how you paint in things that later get covered, the rocks, ground, etc. really are underneath the horse! ...I know I'm rambling a bit but I really do enjoy watching progress, I'm not an artist per say so take me with a grain of salt, ha, ha.

merigold,

Put the rocks, ground & etc. into the background as a base to the painting.
Didn't get too much involved in the detail of the background as I knew the dust the horses were kicking up would obliterate a lot of the background of the picture.
The main focus on the painting is supposed to be the horses---not the background!
Ramble all you like---glad to have the input of other people---artist, or not!!!
Still have a long way to go to get this painting the way I want! (Sometimes too much a perfectionist) Just glad to be back!!!!

Ohhhh...I love it! Please don't give up on it. I used to do the same thing but now I MAKE myself finish every piece (well almost every piece - I'd have to go back through years of paintings to finish every piece) but anyway...NOW I make myself finish. We are our worst critics. There isn't one painting I've done that I love but everyone else thinks they are great!! I think your horses are absolutely beautiful. I love horses but have a fear of painting them - probably cause I love them so much. Wish I could do half as good as you!!

Thanks for the compliment!
Haven't done anything with the painting---yet. Can't decide if I want to spend the time finishing it, or just paint over it.
Know Iv'e put a lot of time & effort into it so far, so may be leaning a little into finishing it.
Would help if the weather was just a little warmer, as I like to do most of my paintings outside, away from distractions.
