| I have growing several beautiful climbing vines from these seeds that were free. Bright yellow flowers cover the plants but I know little about the fruit that is supposed to grow. Anyone have an experience with this vine? Thanks. |

| I'm growing them this year, too. I googled it and this is what I read...it is related to the cucumber. Pick it when the skin is green and you can use it like cucumbers, ie: pickles, salad, etc. Pick when yellow, it is more like a cross between a peach and mango. If I remember correctly it isn't best eaten fresh, but it great for making pies, preserves, etc.
It's sure growing (and looks) like cucmbers and heading up the trellis. Amazing that it starts as a vegetable, then becomes a fruit! Wish all my mature vegetables did that! LOL! |

| On ebay. Had seen them in Gurney's seed catalogue for 2-3 years, but were not in this year's catalogue. I think I read they grow to almost peach size. |

Darius, I think I gave Sunny either some seeds or a plant. If she's growing it, you could probably sweet talk her into sharing when it's ready.. |

| In the photo, they look like a lemon cucumber, so I suppose this is a "peach" cucumber...but still a cucumber. No jam or marmalade from this peach? |

| Supposedly, according to the description from a number of sources, yes, after it turns yellow, it is more fruit, tasting similar to a peach/mango and not so much like a cucumber. Can be used to make pies and preserves.
My vines are growing like crazy, just like cucumbers, but is not putting out anything yet, does have lots of flowers, though. The only difference in the plants that I can see, is that the vine peach has rounded leaves, whereas the cucumber leaves come to a point.
Anxious for them to produce...checking daily! |

| I'll be interested to hear if you do find the flavour to be similar to a peach or mango when you get a fully ripe one. |

| This is one of the fruits. I think it is close to full size. At this stage, it is a cucumber. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| This is a close up of the blooms and a leaf. The leaves are rounded on the end, whereas the cucumber leaves have pointed leaf tips. The blooms are star shaped.
Will do a taste test in a few days. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| To add the picture, just click on the browse buttom, locate the picture in your computer files and click on it. (It'll show a list of all file locations on your computer. I usually just save pictures I'm sharing here in "my documents" for easy access without having to look for them) It should then list the picture file location in the box beside browse. When you click on send at the bottom of your thread reply, it will be included.
I'm guessing not enough room in window box and probably not enough water. Maybe the sun was reflecting too much off the window and overheated them?
It didn't take long for mine to germinate, but it was a good 2 months before I got them out of the 9 oz cups I started them in. When I planted them in the garden, they were pretty slow growing for several weeks then just started growing rapidly.
I had one green one about the size of a lemon Sunday, so picked and cut it for tasting. Tastes like a cucumber to me. However, since I have tons of cucumbers on my other regular cucumbers, I'm going to let these grow till they turn yellow. I'm anxious to see if they really do taste like a cross between a peach and a mango. |
