I'm planning to try my hand at seed-saving this fall, and after reading through all the great tutorial stuff on the Tomato sticky, I'm left with one major question:
Do the tomatoes have to fully ripen on the plant to be good candidates for seed saving?
I'm asking because in general, if I let things go fully ripe on the vine, something else gets 'em before I do. I've been picking as soon as I notice a color change start to happen. Will these 'matos still work for saving the seeds? Or should I figure out some way to let them fully ripen on the vine and not get nibbled on by the local varmints? BTW, if it matters, these would be just for my own personal use; I'm not planning on doing any trading with them at this point.
Thanks all, for your help!
