This is a baby quilt I just finished. The colored fabric is hand painted and the center is Derwent Inktense pencils with a brush over with water. I baked the fabric and then ironed it several times to set it.

thanks. I was worried about the pencil being waterproof. It turns out that it is waterproof, but if you rub it real hard, you get color on your finger tip. Weird.

I have a feeling her mother might put it on the wall. that's what she did with the one I made her big brother. this is a friend of my daughters. we didn't make it to her wedding, but when I was sneaking into the reception late, she ran over, dragged me to her new husband and said, "This is my other mother." She and her husband are both in the diplomatic corps, so it will be a well traveled quilt.

How neat! I'm sure she will treasure it always. It's neat having "adopted" kids like that. Both of my girls friends always called me Mom.

That's beautiful, Kathleen. Never used those pencils before, but sure am glad they worked.
Lovely work...as always.

Thanks!

Sharran, you need these pencils. I've become terrible about buying colored pencils - the more the better. I'm looking a new set with soft leads.

Melody, did you read that article about the soy milk? I'll be waiting on the soy beans in my garden - can't find any raw beans up here in cow feed country, they all come roasted. Now, I may have to get some actual watercolor paints to work with.

I intend to get some as soon as I can find them. Wonder if they have them at Hobby Lobby or should I try to order?

Lots of great colored pencils at Hobby Lobby. I have several different sets.

Yes, I read the soy milk article Kathleen and am off to find some raw soy beans. I know I can get all we can use in a few months, but someone should have some in the bottom of a silo somewhere around. We are soybean country you know. I'll be sure to get enough for both of us.

So do I, Mel...but was wondering about that particular brand that works well on fabric.

Koh-i-noor woodless color pencils will work. You can get them at HL. They are just lacquer coated color. you sharpen them just like a regular pencil.

lol, yes Melody on the soy beans - possibly if I had asked sooner, I could have gotten seed, but I think a hundred pound bag would be a tad much.

I have the Koh-i-noor woodless pencils, too. I really like them a lot. They are all pigment and have a very creamy consistency. Hmm, imagine Mel and I both having the same pencils and in great numbers! I ordered my Inktense pencils through Dick Blick. Between that catalog and Dharma's and Hancock's, I'm supporting the national economy in my own small way.
