I found a cool pattern for a handbag, actually it looks more like an old fashioned doctor's bag, with handles and two wooden dowels that give the top edges stiffness. The pattern calls for a wool tweed yarn but I thought it would be interesting to knit it out of jute garden twine. Is this crazy? Anyone here have any experience knitting jute? I just ordered some online and it will arrive any day. Do you think it might work better if I softened it in water first? Would it be harder to knit if it's wet? Nothing like first hand experience! Please let me know if any of you can tell me what to expect, thanks. I'm hoping to use it as a gardener's tote.
