Attending gardening conferences is one of the best ways to learn---especially about heirlooms. You get the info from the formal speakers, sure. But even more important is the informal swapping of experiences you share with other gardeners.
Here are just a few of the many such conferences and get-togethers. Let's keep this thread going, adding others as they are announced or as you hear about them:
Garden State Heirloom Seed Society (PO box 15, Delaware, NJ 07833, 908-475-4861) Tomato Plant Sale, May; Seed Saving Workshop, August; Farm Celebration, October.
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (2278 Baker Creek Rd., Mansfield, MO 65704, [HYPERLINK@www.rareseeds.com).] Spring Planting Festival, April; Heirloom Garden Show, August.
Seed Savers Exchange (3076 North Winn rd., Decorah, IA 52101, [HYPERLINK@www.seedsavers.org).] Campout Convention, July.
Garlic Is Life Festival (www.garlicislife.com). October/November.
Like I say, this is just a start. Let's keep adding to this list.
