This is the main stem, of three, that has sprung up quickly this Spring after I cleared out the front bed of two overgrown bushes. A number of new plants have emerged which could not get any room or sun to grown. This main stem appears to get the most energy and is now at 7ft tall!. The other two are only 2ft tall and growing more outward, along the ground. The plant has not flowered, nor have I seen any buds. But in the last two days has sprouted new branches at the top, that appear to be mimicking the main stem (again, no buds that I can see). See attached. I didn't want to pull it just yet, and joked that it was my bean stalk to riches.
To me, it looks just like the goldenrod we have. If that's what it is, you won't see any flowers until fall, just a very tall weed-looking plant. We do have a junk weed that looks a lot like it also, but the weed only has one stem. No sign of branching out at all.
