Help! Last year I came across some type of worm on my lavender that looks exactly like the lavender buds. It did not seem to damage the plant. I have not seen anything regarding worms and lavender. Our Extention could not help. Has anyone ever seen anything like it, and what is this peculiar creature? More curious than anything. Is this a new organism?

I don't know what it is, but it's probably larvae of some insect, not worms. Lavender does best in Mediterranean climates and when it's grown in an area it's well adapted to it tends to be pretty pest free, but since your climate is not as ideal for it, it could be more susceptible to pests. But if you only found one and it didn't do any damage I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks ecrane3. Actually, I found several, but they are difficult to locate. They do look exactly like the lavender flower in tight bud. Purple bumps on its back and moves very little. It seems to be adapted to specifically lavender and, no, it really doesn't seem to do any damage that I can tell. Haven't seen any yet this year but this may be because they are so well camafloged. I wouldn't exactly call it a pest. It might be a butterfly larva for all I know. But I haven't found anything resembling it in the books. Thanks for your input.
