I saw this on a hike up in the Valles Caldera / Los Alamos area. Grassy field area at about 9200 feet. Flower was about 1.5 to 2" across, just the one bloom on the plant. Didn't notice the foliage. :(

Does anyone know what it is?

Might be a Calochortus, although I couldn't find one that occurs in NM with that dark of a color.

I think you're right. It must be some sort of mariposa. Here's another photo, different plant, further along the trail.

Here are the ones that the USDA plants database list as occurring in NM...C. flexuosa definitely comes in pink and C. ambiguus might, hard to tell from their pic so you'd have to google and see if you can come up with a better picture. [HYPERLINK@plants.usda.gov]
